IMAGINE being a mother of a newborn that you thought had died but was still alive.

Three doctors and a nurse have been arrested for allegedly selling newborns after telling mothers the babies had died in Mexico City.

The scheme was uncovered after one of the women learnt her baby was alive and had been sold to another woman for 15,000 pesos ($A1250), Deputy Attorney-General Luis Genaro said.

Mr Genaro said police believed the doctors and the nurse had sold several newborn babies but had not yet determined how many.

They face charges of trafficking in minors, organised crime and falsifying documents.

Hopefully the parents would be notified of this. But how would you feel?

Surely there would be emptiness and then hope. But only those who have been through this would know what it’s like to lose a newborn.

Shame on the doctors and nurses above for doing possibly the cruelest act to a mother.
